Real Stories of Local Geothermal Installations
Waterloo Region
New home, combination water to water and water to air units.

This big beautiful residence was built with the best of everything, that includes NextEnergy Geothermal heating and cooling installed by Earth Fx Energy and Bostech Mechanical. This property required 8 heat pumps to heat and cool the living areas and heat the garages.

Forced air to heat and cool the main house.

Radiant in-floor heating to heat the basement, main level floor and garages.

2 of the 8 pumps needed in total.

You can use your imagination to think of how much this property would cost to heat and cool with fossil fuels each year.
Geothermal is an excellent investment for this home, and for yours!

Existing home, geothermal replaces the propane burning furnace and older central air unit.

This home got a geothermal retrofit aimed at saving the homeowners money.
Geothermal can be installed any time of the year. The new furnace switches out the old furnace on the same day.

Say goodbye to the high cost of propane! The average operating cost of propane burning is over 3x the average operating cost of a geothermal system. The geothermal system will also allow the homeowners to cool their home for less than their old electric central air unit. You can see the buried 'loops' coming from the ground, there are small holes made in the foundation to bring the pipes into the heat pump unit in the basement, where the old furnace was (below).

After the installation the ground is made flat and the grass is regrown, the yard can be used as normal.

In urban installations the loops run vertically.
A vertical loop is a little more costly than a horizontal loop installation but needs to be used where land is not available for a horizontal application. Here a vertical loop being drilled at a depth of 180 feet per hole. This geothermal installation is in Guelph Ontario in the Township of Wellington. The 8 ton system for this large home requires 8 bore holes. Versaire was chosen because of the sonic technology onboard the rig which was running 180 feet through rock in about 2 hours per hole. This amazing custom home is being built by Charleston Homes from Rockwood Ontario. They are a premier builder of quality homes and have provided us with much support and project management.

Pond loop installation lowers excavation costs
Ponds and lakes can be used to house the loops for your geothermal system. Bodies of water hold the earth's energy well. The top may freeze but the water beneath is warmer. First you need to have a property abutting a lake or pond that is at least 8 feet deep. Your pond or lake can be assessed for geothermal potential by the experts at Earth Fx energy.
The loops are assembled on shore, often coiled to conserve space. Each row in this case contains one full loop.
The loops are then floated out into the pond, they will be filled which will sink them, then they will be anchored down to the bottom. The loops will disappear under the water and the surface of the pond can be used by animals etc as usual.

A trench is then dug from the pond to the house. This installation incurred very little excavation costs as a result of using the pond instead of trenches for the loops. The naturally occurring water in this trench will help the pipes keep good contact with the surrounding soil.
Financing Options can make your new geothermal system cost you less than your current system is costing you now.
