The Ontario government offers some of the most generous invectives in the world to promote the installation of renewable energy systems.
Wind, Micro-hydro Electric and Geothermal Energy Systems Rebate
This rebate is part of the Ontario government’s Common Retail Sales Tax Rebates and Exemptions for Energy Efficient Goods program. This program returns the retail sales tax paid on geothermal energy systems to homeowners and builders who install these systems into residential buildings, including houses and multi-residential buildings.

Energy Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP)
The Energy Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP) offers grants for energy efficient retrofits to commercial sector entities, including up to o $240 per square meter of installed collector for solar water heating systems.
ERIP has two program options: the ‘Prescriptive Track’ which offers predefined technologies with corresponding per unit or performance-basis savings measures and incentives; and, the ‘Custom Track’ which offers incentives based specifically on the level of efficiency improvement.
Incentives for solar water heating can be used to augment or replace an existing electric water heater. Your local electricity distribution company must be participating in the program in order to be eligible.

ecoENERGY for Renewable Power
ecoENERGY for Renewable Power offers incentives to businesses, municipalities, institutions and organizations for projects that increase Canada’s supply of clean electricity from renewable sources, such as geothermal. ecoENERGY for Renewable Power offers an incentive of once cent per kilowatt hour (kWh) for up to 10 years for geothermal.

Sustainable Energy Funds
Toronto’s Sustainable Energy Funds offers zero interest loans to municipal, academic, social service, health care and not-for-profit organizations located in Toronto for the installation of renewable energy systems that can verify greenhouse gas reductions. Zero-interest loans range from $50,000 to $1million per project for up to 49% of the total project cost.

BOMA Conservation and Demand Management Program (CDM)
The BOMA Conservation and Demand Management Program offers incentives to commercial building owners and tenants in the office, retail, restaurant, hotel and private institution sub-sectors for electricity conservation projects. Buildings must exceed 25,000 ft2 and be located within the City of Toronto (416 area code). BOMA CDM offers $250 per cooling tonne saved, up to 40% of total eligible project costs for geothermal installations.
